A missing person is a person who has disappeared and whose status as alive or dead cannot be confirmed as their location and condition are unknown. A person may go missing through a voluntary disappearance, or else due to an accident, crime, death in a location where they cannot be found (such as at sea), or many other reasons. In most parts of the world, a missing person will usually be found quickly. While criminal abductions are some of the most widely reported missing person cases, these account for only 2 to 5 percent of missing children in Europe. By contrast, some missing person cases remain unresolved for many years. Laws related to these cases are often complex since, in many jurisdictions, relatives and third parties may not deal with a person's assets until their death is considered proven by law and a formal death certificate issued. The situation, uncertainties, and lack of closure or a funeral resulting when a person goes missing may be extremely painful with long-lasting effects on family and friends. A number of organizations seek to connect, share best practices, and disseminate information and images of missing children to improve the effectiveness of missing children investigations, including the International Commission on Missing Persons, the International Centre for Missing & Exploited Children (ICMEC), as well as national organizations, including the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children in the US, Missing People in the UK, Child Focus in Belgium, and The Smile of the Child in Greece.

According to current statistics, 4,000 people in the United States go missing every day. Sometimes a child suddenly vanishes from the bus stop or the local park or even from their own yard or bedroom. Or a teenager doesnt return home after a walk to the neighborhood grocery store or a bike ride or a party with friends. Other times, an adult is mysteriously absent from their job or neighbors havent seen them for several days, and family and friends havent heard from them either.

Markings and/or Distinguishing Characteristics Caucasian male. Brown hair, hazel eyes. Gumm has a eight-inch tattoo of the Kundalini Staff of Life on the inside of his left forearm, which also has a tattoo of a sun. He has a tattoo of a blue eye on his right hand. A photo of the Staff of Life tattoo is posted with this summary. Shortly before his disappearance, he got a buzz cut, so his hair may be much shorter than in most of the photos shown. He may use the name Albert Johnsun.
Details of Disappearance Gumm moved from his home in North Berwick, Maine to Kauai, Hawaii in February 2018, to "seek enlightenment." His parents stated that prior to leaving, he had begun to withdraw from his social circle and had taken a vow of silence from his parents and possibly others.
After his arrival in Hawaii, Gumm checked into the Kauai Beach House Hostel and stayed there for two days. He is known to have contacted two cab companies, on February 22 and 23, but neither company has a record of picking him up. His last call was placed from the hostel on February 24, 2018. He has never been heard from again.
Gumm's family stated he frequented California from the age of seventeen, working odd jobs in Maine between trips west. He was a skateboarder and graffiti artist, and he played piano, drums and guitar and wrote lyrics. He was in a band and had wanted to be a professional musician, but prior to his disappearance he began to shun the idea of fame and fortune.
He had taken a trip to India and had done extensive research on religion and spiritualism, as well as healing herbs and natural supplements. He adopted a strict vegan diet and began losing weight as a result, and he pulled away from his friends and spent a lot time in his room meditating; he refused to even eat meals with his parents. He did not use alcohol or drugs at the time of his disappearance.
When Gumm traveled to Hawaii, he had only cash on him, and he has not withdrawn any money from his bank account, which contained nearly $8,000, since he went missing. His parents think he may have sought out Buddhist or Hindu monks in Hawaii in order to become enlightened.
His friends traveled to Hawaii to search for him in late 2019. They found out he may have been seen camping in Hawaii, and that he may have shopped for camping gear in the spring of 2019. Most of Gumm's friends think he may have gone to the Kalula Valley area to live "off the grid" and may not want to be found.
Another theory is suicide; one friend who lived with Gumm in Los Angeles as they tried to develop their music careers stated his behavior had become erratic and he came to believe he was a descendant of the extraterrestrial beings that inhabited Lemuria, the mythical birthplace of civilization. At one point, during a music performance, Gumm thought he was going to ascend into another universe and was disappointed when it didn't happen.
Gumm's family hopes he is still alive, possibly still on Kauai, and will contact them when he is ready. His remains unsolved.
